We are currently recruiting for:

One (1) Chemist to be based in our Tasiast’s Mine Control Laboratory in Mauritania.

RESPONSABILITY

• Execute position responsibilities and duties in a professional manner that is in compliance with ALS HR, HSE and Quality policies and procedures.

• This position reports to the QC Manager and/or the Laboratory Manager.

• Supervising and performing Fire assay and Wetchem laboratory activities; monitoring, reviewing procedures and providing technical recommendations.

• Ensuring 90% equipment availability at all times.

• Ensuring that equipment maintenance schedules are implemented, making sure that equipment calibrations and repairs are timely done.

• Monitoring and ensuring good laboratory practices are implemented, including good level of housekeeping at all times and providing regular trainings to staff.

• Implementing quality improvements as directed by the direct supervisors.

• Effectively document, interpret and communicate analysis results within the context of the production facilities to maintain good customer satisfaction.

• Generate production and technical reports as required.

• Assist with tasks in other departments as needed.

EDUCATION& KNOWLEDGE

• Degree in Analytical chemistry.

• Fully bilingual in both written and spoken English/French.

• Appropriate chemistry and technical knowledge.

• Appropriate mathematical / statistical principles

• Appropriate knowledge of customer focus principles.

• Basic Quality history and principles such as continuous improvement programs.

• ISO 17025 & 9001 systems familiarity is an added advantage.

COMPETENCY& EXPERIENCES

 • Time management skills and principles.

• Good communication skills and problem solving skills.

• Self-motivated and must be able to work independently.

• Very good knowledge in Fire Assay, AAS analysis

• Demonstrated computer skills and proficient in computer software applications for equipment control, data collection and analysis.

• Physical Demands include, but are not limited to:

working shift work, including night, overtime, and availability during holidays, if needed.

• The work schedule at Tasiast is 14 days onsite and 7 days rotation leave but the chemist can be required to spend more than two weeks onsite depending of the need.

• Tolerance and ability to work under rough weather conditions (desert weather).

• Able to lift over 50 pounds of material frequently.
